MFPS XIV: Local Arrangements
The conference will take place on the Mile End Campus of QMW. Please see
the campus map
for locations of venues.
Registration will take place in the Foyer of the People's Palace at QMW,
starting at 11:00 on Sunday 10th May. The desk will remain open throughout
Sunday, and will open again on Monday morning. Payment can be made by
cheque or credit card (Mastercard or Visa).
To get to the People's Palace (33 on the Campus Map): first go to the Clock
Tower on Mile End Road (marked main entrance). The impressive building
facing you is the Queen's Building (College Administration!), and the
People's Palace is the building on your left. Enter by the doors just
inside the College, and then go straight forward to the foyer.
Talks will also take place in the People's Palace (33 on the campus map).
Joint sessions will be held in the Skeel Lecture Theatre upstairs, and
parallel sessions will be held in the twin theatres PP1 and PP2 in the
basement. Enter as for registration, or through the alleyway on the other
side of the building. Coffee will be available in the foyer at break times.
Closest restrooms are in the basement, near rooms PP1 and PP2.
Lunches will be provided each day of the conference in the Galleria
Restaurant on the top floor of the College main refectory (5 on the Campus
Map). The most direct route from the Lecture Theatres is to exit the
College and turn left down the Mile End Road. After about 100 yards, turn
left into the College again between the campus branches of Dillon's
bookshop and Barclay's bank. The entrance to the refectory is then just
through the passageway on your right.
The Landin reception will be held in the Senior Common Room in the Queen's
Building (1 on the Campus Map). Enter Queen's building at the front, turn
either right or left, find some stairs and go towards the front of the
building.
The Conference dinner will be held on Tuesday in the AnteRoom in the
Sherfield Building at Imperial College. To get to Imperial College, take
the District Line from Stepney Green to South Kensington. Here is a
map of the area.
Computer access, some quiet rooms, and a book display will be in the
Informatics Teaching Laboratory (ITL: 27 on the Campus Map). The ITL
is our undergraduate teaching laboratory, and has some 120 dual boot
LINUX/NT PC's. The building will probably be full of undergraduates
panicking about exams, but not doing anything productive (the
conference is in the middle of our exam period). Please use the North
end of the ground floor, if there is room there. Otherwise feel free
to use anywhere on the first two floors. A guest account has been set
up. Login details will be given at the conference. Access to this
building is by card key, ten of which have been provided for the
conference, and which will also give access to the Computer Science
Department itself, should you wish to visit. Please return these to
the organisers or locals when you've finished with them (or to
somebody else who wants to use them, of course). Please also return
them to us at the end of the conference (since we will have to pay for
them if you don't). You are welcome to keep files, do local
processing, and make printouts during the conference, but the account
will be closed shortly after it finishes.
The lecture theatres are equipped with ONE overhead projector each
(and blackboards). If you require two overhead projectors, please let
us know as soon as possible. We have also arranged for ONE video projector
for use in connection with laptops.
If you require this for your talk, you must let us know as soon as possible.
We depend on you to provide the laptop and any software.
